The ultimate goal of Immigration is to be a Citizen of your dream country. Bill C-6 has finally received Royal Assent and became Law on June 19, 2017 , amending Canada’s Citizenship Act. 

The new law is helping thousands of Permanent Residents of Canada and their families to fulfil their dream to become Canadian Citizen. Now, they can apply for citizenship sooner. Permanent Residents of Canada must meet few conditions to be eligible to apply for Canadian Citizenship. New conditions are:

  • Residency Requirement
    • Must have been physically present in Canada for at least 1, 095 days, or three years, within a five-year period.
    • Now period before becoming PR may be counted towards residency requirement. Applicants can avail maximum credit of 365 days spent on temporary status.
  • Applicants between 18 and 54 years must pass the Citizenship Test.
  • Applicants between 18 and 54 years must meet the language requirements for citizenship: English or French skills (Listening and Speaking).
  • Must file Canadian income taxes, for three out of five years, matching the new physical presence requirement.
  • Minors can now apply for citizenship without a Canadian parent, as the age requirement for citizenship has been removed.
  • Must have a clean record.
